happy Veterans Day my name is Dominic sell Peck and I'm the principal David E Williams middle school and is my pleasure to introduce our Veterans Day tribute we wish that we could be together to celebrate as a team an American Family however let this video serve as a source of pride in our country and show of gratitude to our veterans in the early morning hours of March 4th 1801 John Adams the second President of the United States Whiteley left Washington DC under a cover of Darkness he would not attend the inauguration ceremony held later that day for his former friend and not flood rival Thomas Jefferson who would soon replaced Adams in the still unfinished presidential mansion on the heels of his humiliating defeat in the previous year's election Adams was an important precedent his departure from Office marked the first peaceful transition of power between political opponents in the United States now viewed as a Hallmark of the Nations democracy since then the loser of every presidential election in the US History has willingly and peacefully surrender power to the winter despite whatever personal animosity for political division might exist this important event set the stage to cement our place as the model Democratic Nation for the world are military true to the people serve have protected our peaceful transition of power ever since this tribute is for the 1% of our country that answered the call of John F Kennedy when he he said ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country are veterans spent countless hours away from loved ones and extreme conditions risking their lives and health so that we may enjoy our many right and many freedoms let us take the time today to reflect consider their sacrifices and most of all say thank you happy Veterans Day and please enjoy our video Rosebud Drive never arrived. hello I'm Mister early we're here today to honor our heroes to remember they're keeping their curves their dedication for the sacrifices to all of our betters watching this today you have made our Armed Forces one of the most respected in the world hi I'm representing Conor lamb and I represent you in the United States House of Representatives thank you for inviting me back to celebrate Veterans Day with you again in the past I've had the chance to come and visit you in person and obviously this year we can do that but I really want to thank the man school district for what they do for Veterans Day holiday I represent a lot of different schools in a lot of different school district and how many of them honor our veterans the way that you guys do every year what I want to say about this Veterans Day is that pay attention to politics at all or just for the news you can see there's a lot of people who talk about our country being very divided and people have very strong opinions about who should be the president of the important contribution that veterans make to our society is that they are people who made a choice at some point in their life to put the needs of the United States of America First no matter what political party matter where they're from no matter who the president is they just simply stood up and said I am willing to be a team player I am willing to serve and when you join the military in a very real way you're saying to the United States you can do with me what you want you can give me whatever job you want you can send me wherever you want and I'll serve I'll do my job and of course many veterans are called to make the ultimate sacrifice because of that. end up giving their lives for this country we celebrate that on Memorial Day veterans who have lost their life in defense of this nation and obviously we honor them again today but Veterans Day is really a day where we try to honor everybody who is served because everybody made that decision to quit service over themselves and in so much of American Life today it seems like people can be very focused on themselves and social media is something that I think makes everything person feel like you know they are the king of the world but people who served in the military know what it's like to be on a team know what it's like to commit themselves to service and I think more than anyone they know how lucky we are to be Americans Born Free Living in a country where the Constitution is ultimately what matters the most and not one personality or king or ruler and in order to have that continue from the future we need young people like you guys I want a servant to be willing to make the same sacrifices that people made before you so that we can have a country that's so great so I hope that as you're celebrating Veterans today day today some of you were also thinking about how one day you're going to get the answer and I hope you take advantage of that we would love to have thank you Northport community on state representative Anita Kulik for me to be here to take part in your Veterans Day ceremony honored to serve on the Veterans Affairs committee for the state house together with my colleagues we work to ensure that our veterans are protected our veterans have served our country and made sacrifices beyond what normal people would have to make a sacrifice time with their families they sacrificed time with their careers and some have made the sacrifice for their country out and about someone wearing a military jacket a cab or uniform greet them and thank him for the service. God bless all our veterans thank you soldiers from Wars both old and new March down city streets Flags hang from home businesses even car in 10 ceremonies remember those who do Dudley serve their Nation it's Veterans Day for Remembrance Day as it's known in much of the world a time to honor members of the Armed Forces and it all began in railroad car with a document to end the war to end all wars World War I also known as the Great War shock the global Community with an unprecedented told in human-like Untold Millions were killed low on Manpower and supplies so they agreed to sign an Armistice or truce in the French Commander heard enough Bashas private rail car on the 11th Hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 all was quiet on the confronting the fighting had ended exactly one year later President Woodrow Wilson decreed that Americans should observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. to remember the Armistice and to embrace the other Allied Nations commemorated the peaceful anniversary as well in England and Canada citizens were paper poppies poppies at become a symbol of the Armistice the poem Flanders Field describe the one-time Battlefield in Flanders Fields the poppies blow between the crosses row on row in America the nation's first Unknown Soldier was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Armistice Day 1921 he was a casualty of the Great War since that first Memorial other unknown soldiers from America's Wars have been entered in the Tomb and it's become tradition for the president or one of his representatives to lay a wreath on the monument every November 11th a resolution was passed in the 1826 inviting all Americans to remember Armistice Day and the soldiers who fought so hard for peace the idea caught on by 1938 the day was marked with so many ceremonies in parade Congress made it illegal giving people the day off work after World War II and the Korean War Americans wanted to open up the holiday to include not just World War 1 veterans but all who served in combat in 1954 President Dwight a World War II vet himself legally change the u.s. Armistice Day to Veterans Day honoring those who served in All American wars for a brief time starting in 1971 Congress move the holiday to the 4th Monday or not getting Americans a three-day weekend but most people rejected the idea the traditional date of November 11th the anniversary of the Great War cease-fire was two historically important to get President Ford reverse the law 1975 returning Veterans Day back to its rightful date over the decades the holiday has changed with the times originally it was a call for World Peace then in the US it became a day to remember War veterans today Veterans Day is set aside to honor not just those who served in war but also those who have served their nation in peace these are the times that try men's Souls summer Soldier and the Sunshine Patriot will in this crisis shrink from the service of his country cheapest and buy it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman for the past 5 years choose to partake in an essay writing contest for Veterans Day our students have answered that call grade level was given a different prompt to write about selecting a winner from each grade level difficult task because we have many well written essays Saturday's important because it's a date of thinking of all the veterans in the world for the all the hard work is inside Veterans Day is important because it makes people realize how fortunate they are for the veterans who have put themselves in danger serve our country one reason is because veterans has to be honored thanks to hard work Isaiah many people don't see how for how much effort and work do veterans have done to serve our country Veterans Day is a great day to say thank you and have a reason is that it is a day for everyone how veterans have put themselves in danger to serve our country not many people think about how dangerous it could be to serve our country was a veteran still went out there with courage and determination people need to realize David Brent this is because veterans should be thanked for their service thank you very much a true hero isn't measured by the size of his or her strength but by the strength of his or her heart Zeus from the Disney movie Hercules it doesn't matter how tall or small you are Oneida is at the veterans rep their life for us and we could thank them for that the veterans didn't have to join the Army Navy Marines or Air Force but they died because they have a strong Hearts that's our country I went on a veteran by sending him or her thank you card and if I saw a letter and I would say thank you for your favorite I would do this today know how thankful I am that they put others life before their own they put their lies that was because families and our Country Returns come in all shapes and sizes is that they have passion in their heart for the United States was talking in your heart you can do anything we should all be thankful for veterans because if we didn't have veterans you might not be here today or country can be destroyed if you don't have that answer for text us his work so hard that we can have a great Legend Freedom they risk everything for us so that we can have the ability to go to school restaurants shopping with airports and what and confusion and I can be a veteran all you need is a strong car for the United States am I to the size or strength better in just their life so that we can have freedom to do or say what we want to give up seeing their family and give us freedom that's why that's why I would think about it this country will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave Elmer Davis and all of our freedom of religion suppressed amputation the land of the free we have all of these Liberty at some very important people are nice but they aren't recognized celebrities we have are the main thing that sets us apart from any other countries we know that we have all these probably take the house where none of the land of the free solely as an effect of the brave soldiers that fought for the name physically I'm talking about all the veterans that stood in the line of fire then truly amazing people put the enemy life that they just to endure and educate them. They may not even get to live to fold luxury of the circle and their lifetime men and women fight rd90 sacrifices and they don't even know if their goal be accomplished before they died but they do know or at least you know that they have made a difference we have to remember that the lifestyle that we could watch it for free and the praise is yours out on the field have to leave their family for long periods of time will there outside they have friends and family just like anyone else but the difference is that they are brave enough to sacrifice a piece of fighting stick and that's it I'm dead for the land of the freezer Nation City but we aren't even the ones that aren't it it's the veterans that won the name but it's all about you get to have its privileges two people fighting sacrifice so much that they may not even get the four factors are but they know they made a difference and that's all they have to know to register a lot not only that but they have family just like the rest of us and what do they decide to put it time to perfect this weekend I've been thought about you people that put their needs and wants Arthur rice Midas leotards and for that we have so many people to think the meaning of the quote This Nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave is that if we didn't have Ray veterans and brave men and women willing to go into the military and Fight For Freedom the United States might no longer be free without these Brave and courageous men and women fighting we wouldn't have military stand up for our country and our freedom they know their lives are at risk but they proceed to go anyway the veterans are just as important as active members they were once an active member and they succeed fighting for our freedom there many freedoms and privileges that they fight for our country to keep our country is unique compared to other with the amount of things we have the freedom to do if we didn't have active military members and Veterans who fought in our siding for a country and its freedom it wouldn't be what it is today I'm going to save crafts and I'm honored to be here and first of all I want to thank the faculty baby Williams Middle School especially mr. Hyde her sister Ali mr. selfhacked and mr. Marvin so thank you very much for having me it's an honor for me to be here to honor for me to serve my country and it's a special honor to be are you going to the pool today with you and answering your questions so just a little bit about myself I grew up off a Silver Lane in Robinson Township on Eichelberger drive my mother actually substitute teacher hear David E Williams back in the early 80s and right before I came here in the mid-80s I've got two older sisters that went to David E Williams also and went and graduated from Ottawa High School speaking that I graduated 1987 and after attending Montour high school and graduating I went to Kent State University in Ohio and the reason why I just can't stay because they have a flying for them and I I've always wanted to fly ever seen Forest Grove Elementary the days back and forth Grove and I remember always wanting to fly so went to Kent State wanted to fly and they have a real good time program up there but I didn't have the money to afford that so I joined ROTC but I didn't know how to get there so I checked into ROTC and they said hey we can teach you how to fly there Force away for free so so I said that's all me so I went through our TCL 4 years of my undergrad degree at Kent State and graduated in December 91 with the bachelor science and also a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force after that I had to wait a whole year before I went into the air force just cuz of their back while Good Pilot so I went to Pilot training a whole year later December of 92 I started my active duty Air Force career and undergraduate pilot training in Vance air force base in Enid Oklahoma that was a whole year long School very tough cool a lot of ups and down but I got through it and I got my wings on December 17th of 1993 about two weeks later I got married to another month graduate and we've been married for 27 years and we have one child she went to Moon Moon area so she's a moon but don't hold that against you want to teach you guys will see her in the near future after I graduated pilot training I went out to Abilene Texas to fly the C-130 did that for five years and then went to Greenville South Carolina flying I'm playing but a different location I got out of active duty right before 9/11 and I decided to move back to Pittsburgh with my family cuz that's where she's from and that's for I love you but I grew up so I joined Air Force Reserves after active duty and that's where I'm at now is a 9/11 year with ring here in Pittsburg my civilian jobs at hired at FedEx Airbus a300 so that's my real job full-time job at FedEx and part-time job in the Air Force Reserves so that's the way it is right now I did four years is the commander of the flying squadron at the reserves and I'm presently four years into the deputy Ops group command Staten Island quick down and dirty about myself okay the first question is actually two people that's kind of the same questions mr. mechanic jobs and Jacob shark on I believe that's how you say you last night if I messed it up 58 and 7th I basically asked the same question how did Montour help you get into the military and you think your time and want to help pave the way for your success in the military I can honestly say it definitely my time here at Davey Williams and at the high school we pave the way for me to be deleted that I am today they created that Foundation of leadership especially through Sports and extracurricular activities and it gave me the Education Foundation that I needed to get my degree and attend pilot training and do while they're one of the other questions was my favorite class by far science I was my favorite class of all with signs here at David E and at the high school I like math science I really liked and I did okay at and and that's a lot of the reasons why I wanted to be a pilot also what was your favorite classical I just answered that one how about Tarkan and Mia dibianco delbianco I'm sorry 6th grade what is your favorite memory from your years of service so one of my favorite memories of my years of service was all the good friends that I've met and worked with quite a family when you're when you especially when you go to combat situation with the group of men and women you become real close with them so I'm one of my best memories is all my memories with with my good friends that I can see your family stuff like that next question with c from Mike probably check if you had to pick the hardest challenge you faced and starving what would that be the part that was the hardest for me was leaving my family there was after 9/11 the Air Force deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq and we ended up waiting till 2:03 to go but when we left in December of 03 we had no idea when we're coming back to that was the hardest challenge for me what to tell my family and when to tell him I'd see him again if ever luckily we all came back safe and sound about the nine months later but we weren't quite sure if we were going to come back in a year to your door sometime less than that that was very challenging next question Lindsay chaos and combat experience you've continued with you what are some of the deciding factors that gave you the real 2% on word for us everything in the airplane is training training training we trained all the time and we are evaluated all the time how to take tests all the time so all the combat situations that come up or just another training scenario before shooting at us and then things happen like we lose an engine or something happens on the plane we get we revert to training that we had and it's the same with the commercial airlines they take train us constantly for a for the bad situation especially in the simulator we can stimulate up pretty much anything in the simulator that we can't do out in the real world still training is definitely would his saved saved us over there and obviously the people the people that were with our train just as well and their abilities your content with their ability still be to if everyone on board and the crew we get through any situation there alright next question from Tyler James what makes you stressed and anxious well like I said just like you we have tests and we have to study and we're constantly learning so when I had go for a test that I get really anxious and nervous and when I get evaluated I'm pretty nervous and anxious to so just like you guys to standard academics so keep up with it smart 7 next question from Ethan out Alcon OC Crow crap what is the most memorable moment of your career and why story I like to tell people my most memorable was over in Afghanistan flying around we would fly every other day and a long day and you never knew what you were going to take whether it would be people or our bullets or parts for another airplane but we're constantly moving things around over there we got alerted to go fly they call it HR mission for HR meets human remains so the most memorable time for me was when we had to bring human remains which was a killed two people killed in action back from it at gas in route of Afghanistan the main base so is very memorable was my first time ever doing that and it was it was like draped coffins for and you knew your combat buddies were were just teased and passed away that you had to get back to the family so you wanted to do it must be Esther detention while they put the the casket on and off so that way and they look real nice comebacks and thank you so the last question from Joshua's the mollusk what advice would you give children and teens and even adults they want to enlist in the military my biggest if I to do all your research you can and talk to as many people as you can that are in the field that you want to be in don't and if that's your dream if that's deep in your heart what you want to do don't let anyone ever say no and reach for the stars and don't give up and good luck with everything once again it was an honor and a pleasure for me to speak to all the students here Theory Williams wish we could do it in person but I promise to keep my hands washed and where my mat so thank you very much. Spartans thank you JB room staff and students for all of your contribution for operation troop appreciation call James Pizza Hut
